Habitat HUB: A Summer of Green Projects and Great Connections
This summer, 15 volunteers gathered at Habitat HUB in Kerkakutas, Hungary, for three weeks of eco-friendly work, fun, and personal growth. From June 19 to July 9, we rolled up our sleeves to help build a sustainable HUB for a future eco-community, learning hands-on skills in permaculture and natural building along the way.
Our days had a relaxed flow—working in the mornings and late afternoons to beat the heat, with a nice long siesta in between. We also had theory sessions on permaculture, and evenings were spent enjoying meals and hanging out.
We got busy planting trees, building a greywater system, and setting up composting systems. There were also some fun artistic tasks, like making mosaics and designing a sensory garden path. Volunteers had the chance to lead projects, making it feel like we were all part of something bigger.
We dealt with heatwaves and rain, but we adapted quickly, shifting work hours and moving some tasks indoors. Despite a few bumps along the way, the camp was filled with laughter, teamwork, and positive vibes.
By the end of the camp, the site had transformed into a more sustainable and beautiful space. But the real reward was the personal growth and friendships that blossomed throughout. Volunteers left with new skills, and organizers gained valuable experience in leadership.
It was a rewarding, fun, and meaningful three weeks, and we’re excited to keep the Habitat HUB journey going!
